WHY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text:
1 Samuel 15:7-16

TOPIC:
WHY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY❓

MEMORY VERSE:
1Sam. 15:3

Message:
We live in times where and when people blame everyone else for what is happening in their lives. From the leaders to the led, parents to children, government to the masses, school teachers to the pupils, pastors to the congregations, and vice versa. Many people no longer take responsibility for their own actions or inactions.

When their plans turn out as planned, they are so happy to announce, “we made it” However, when things turn out not as planned, the language changes. We tend to blame everyone and everything but ourselves when we fail to meet up without responsibilities. We are more interested in passing the blame to other person.

In our text, God expressly told king Saul what to do. God said to him, “Go to Amalek and utterly destroy everything and everyone….” The instructions to Saul the leader was unequivocal and clear. But what did saul do? He spared Agag the king of Amalek. He spared some livestock so as to “sacrifice” unto the Lord. And when confronted, he quickly pointed accusing fingers at the people. He didn’t want to take responsibility. He failed in his duties as a leader. It takes humility to admit our mistake. King Saul is a type of some present leaders, who blame others for their own failures rather than accept and correct their mistakes.

Leaders, whether in the family,  church or society at general, should learn to accept responsibilities. Blaming people, witches and wizards for our failures will not do us any good. Let us learn from the mistakes of king Saul today not to allow ourselves to be pushed off the track on our assignments. Let us take responsibilities as leaders and guide our followers aright.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Trading blames does not bring profit, accepting responsibilities does.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to accept my mistakes and take responsibility for my actions. Amen.

PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP❗

Topic:
PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP❗

Memory verse:
Hebrew 12:1

Message:
Often times, we face various life situations that push us to the point of attempting to give up and throw in the towel. It may be a health issue, a broken relationship, financial problems or depression. If you have found yourself at that point today, there is a word of encouragement for you. Hebrews 12 gives you a powerful reason to keep on keeping on.

Our text reveals that we have an audience, a heavenly audience that is watching and cheering us. God is the first member of this watching host. As Job says, “He Sees everything I do and every step I take. And Jesus tells us in Luke that, “Even every hair on your head has been counted”. God does not want you to fail and will not allow you to fail. Don’t yield to that temptation because God is watching. In one of our texts, the Bible declares, “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him with whom we must give account.”

Moreover, the Heavenly audience is also made up of saints of old, people like Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Job, Hannah, and so on. Men and Women of faith who passed through the various hills and valleys of life and came out triumphant. If you can listen well, you will hear them saying, “If we made it, you too can make it.” Some of them went through much worse circumstances than you are going through now and yet they never gave up. They are watching to see how well you are enduring. When you feel like giving up, remember the people who have gone before you and are offering you encouragement through their life stories of faith.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
A reflection on the life of men and women of faith energizes our hearts and offers us the courage and wisdom to move on with our faith life.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to be continually encouraged by the testimonies of the saints who had gone before me.

WHY NOT AVOID VENGEANCE ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text:
Deut. 32:35; Proverbs 25:21-22

Topic:
WHY NOT AVOID VENGEANCE❓

Memory verse:
Romans 12:19

Message:
There’s no way one will conceive VENGEANCE without contemplating EVIL. And to contemplate evil, one must COMPULSORILY move outside the realms of “LIGHT”, in order to pally with “DARKNESS” in the darkness. Regardless of the duration of one’s stay in the “dark regions” in such season to cogitate on or cook up a vengeance plan, and execute the same, what it literally means is that such a person had willingly surrendered or brought himself or herself under the domain and dominion of darkness. it’s more like the person is saying to the powers of darkness, “Here I am, use me; I lend myself to you as a willing instrument of evil, use me for your evil purpose”.

It’s impossible to throw mud, which one scooped with his or her bare hands, without getting one’s hand dirtied. The same way, it’s impossible to conceive vengeance without partnering with darkness.

Through when some people get to execute the vengeance they conceived, they may feel that justice has been served. But the question is: on whose law was such justice based- God’s, Satan’s, or men? Of course, it’s not God’s law. God clearly states that vengeance belongs to Him (Deut. 32:35). So, it must either be man’s or Satan’s law. And whether it is Satan’s or of men, it’s surely a faulty law. The very perfection of both entities makes it practically impossible for whatever law they promulgate against God’s clear edict to be faultless. And any justice that is premised on a faulty law is no justice at all; “An unjust law”, as Saint Augustine rightly observed, “is no law at all.”

In other words, in sight of God, vengeance is nothing but anarchy, in spite of what names human tag it. Whosoever conceives and executes vengeance lives the life of a rebel against his or her creator. Before God, evil is evil, be it committed as an offense or as a vengeance. And as the Scriptures says, “Though hand join in hand, the wicked will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 11:21). God will not hold the guilty guiltless. Avoid vengeance!

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
He alone, that created both light and darkness, is the only One qualified to take vengeance; for He created us all. Avoid vengeance.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me a heart that forgives rather than seek vengeance. Amen.

DO YOU KNOW ❗ GOD’S WORD IS YES AND AMEN❓

2Corinthians 6:16-18

Topic:
DO YOU KNOW❗ GOD’S WORD IS YES AND AMEN❓

Memory verse:
1Corinthians 3:16

Message:
Naturally, when an infinite mind tries to communicate something to a finite mind, what is being communicated may seem to the latter like an illusory, a mirage. Yes, in spite of how priceless the subject of communication, it might just end up being viewed like a typical work of an illusionist- whose original intent is not necessarily to communicate anything of substance, but just to make a stunning impression on the mind of the observer. Hence, they refer to such stunts as “The more you look, the less you see”.

But God is NOT AN ILLUSIONIST. He says what He means and means what He says.

In our text today, God refers to us, the saints, as His temple. The whole idea is simply to convey to us the understanding that we are unique. God Himself resides in us. And He expresses Himself through us. Put differently, we’re meant to be the most brilliant expression of God’s invisibility.

To the natural mind, it will seem so elusive, yet, the reality is that God meant every word of it. We are His temple; He resides in us; and He manifests Himself through us. It is therefore necessary that we see ourselves that way, and equally behave accordingly- and live as those whose lives are the dwelling place of the Spirit of the Holy One and the God of limitless possibilities.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Insist on being ALL that God says about you; He meant EVERYTHING He says about you.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to believe and behave according to all that You have said about me. Amen.

HOW PRAYERFUL ARE YOU ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL.

Thursday 16th July 2020

Text :
DANIEL 9:10 – 11

Topic :
HOW PRAYERFUL ARE YOU❓

Memory verse:
1 Thessa. 5:17

Message:
As Fire exists by Burning, Aquarium by Water, Believers in Christ exist by Prayer. Prayer is the believer’s sources of spiritual Strength and Energy. Prayer is indeed the engine room of the believer, both physically and spiritually. A prayerless  Christian is a baseless Christian. In fact, he is a powerless Christian too.

Worst still, there are people who see Prayer as a business venture. They commercialize prayer and make merchandise of the grace of God. Child of God, Prayer should be a habit as it was for the saints of old. Remember that the saints of old who made prayer a habit reaped bountifully its fruits. Their prayer life was the attraction point of God’s answers.

We read of Daniel praying three times a day, “AS HE DID AFORETIME.” His was a life of prayer. He did not just wake up to pray because there was a challenge. The Bible says, “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, …. He kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, AS HE DID AFORETIME” (Dan. 6:10). It must be emphasized that prayer is not a last option for the believer.

Unfortunately, many people resort to prayer as the last option. Let us imbibe the habit of prayer. Let us not treat prayer as a magic wand. The power of habitual prayer cannot be overemphasized as it was evidenced in the mighty deliverance which God granted Daniel in the lions’ Den.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Prayer should be our Steering Wheel and not our Spare Tyre.

PRAYER:
Lord, give me the grace to pray to You always. Amen.
