WHY NOT TRUST GOD❓

Memory verse:
Genesis 12:1

Message:
Trusting God sometimes means stepping out by faith even when you do not know where you are going. Your location sometimes will affect your allocation. One of the worst things that can happen to you in life is to be in a place where God has left. It also becomes tragic when you remain in a place where your assignment has finished. Today, many people are struggling because they lack perceptive ability; they are staying in a place where they have been retired. New grounds produce new glories. Many times, we fear the uncertain future than relying on the certain God.

The Lord spoke to Abram at age 75 to leave his father’s house to a place that He will show him. Notice, as at this time, Abram was an old man. He was used to his father’s land, possibly he had built his retirement house, and maybe he had already settled in his heart that he had few days to spend on earth. The moment God spoke to him, he obeyed with prompt action. New assignments renew our lives. The problem with some of us is that the comfort in our present place has made us overlook the greater miracle that awaits when we leave. For some, the fear of the uncertain future has crippled their chances of making it to the next level; while for others, the frustration of starting all over again has robbed them of the greater height they could have achieved.

Today, the evidence of our trust is our willingness to step out of our comfort zone to do God’s bindings. Let it be said of you that in spite of all odds you obeyed God and did it.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to always trust in You. Amen.

WILL YOU BE AN AGENT OF BAD NEWS❓

WILL YOU BE AN AGENT OF BAD NEWS❓

Memory verse:
Numbers 13:32

Message:
An agent is one who acts for another. He could be a volunteer or a hired worker. We live in a world where almost every minute that passes, greets us with either good or bad news. Sometimes, both the bad and the good news come at the same time. The agents of these news, especially bad news, most times, do not know the negative effects of the news they spread.

They were sent to spy on a land that was flowing with milk and honey. They were expected to bring back good news; rather they brought back bad news. The ten spies in our text were agents of bad news. Believers should not be agents of bad news. The negative effects of the bad news they spread can be summarized as follows:

1. Bad news breaks the heart and weakens faith.

2. Bad news can kill instantly, ( Eg. Eli, the priest, and his daughter-in-law, died as a result of bad news, 1Sam. 4:19).

3. Bad news spreads farer and faster than epidemic.

4. Bad news can be more infectious than any malignant virus.

5. Bad news can be very destructive. It was bad news that made the son of Jonathan a cripple (2Sam. 4:4). When they heard of impending war, the servant while fleeing dropped him on the floor and he became permanently lame, and died a cripple even though blessed by God.

6. Bad news can be deceptive. Agents of bad news are discouragers, like the ten spies; agents of bad news always spread discouraging words.

Agents of bad news are sometimes sponsored by Satan to wreak havoc or used by men to achieve their selfish ends. Agents of bad news are heart breakers, like the servants of Job, “I only am escaped to tell thee….” Let’s not be agents of bad news. May we not be used by men or Satan to spread bad news! Rather than spread bad news, spread good news; spread God’s word and love.

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
Resist the temptation of being used either by Satan or men to spread bad news.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me not to be agent of bad news. Amen.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF PERILOUS TIME ❓

HAVE YOU HEARD OF PERILOUS TIME❓

Memory verse:
2Timothy 3:3

Message:
One of the major times mentioned in the Bible is the perilous times. Nobody knows how long such times will last but certainly they herald the last days of this earth system. Perilous means dangerous. In this dangerous time, the Bible records from the text above that people will be lovers of themselves, and self-centeredness will be the order of the day. They will crave and become crazy for wealth, boasters, children will be disobedient to their parents, unholy and without natural affection and all manner of things contrary to the word of God.

Many children of God give attention to things they should not, some allow false teachers to give them teachings contrary to the word of God. The Bible warns that we should go far away from such people. Any doctrine that is against the word of God should be avoided. Be mindful of what you watch, say, listen and do. Protect yourself from deceptive influences and temptation. Avoid negative communications and strong affinity with unbelievers lest they corrupt you.

Plato says that an “unexamined life is not worth living”. In this light, we are persuaded to see through the word of God continually and assess our lives consciously. Live a holy and righteous life. Live with the rapture in view.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Evaluate your life in the light of the word of God and adjust where it does not line up with divine will so that you will be rapture ready.

PRAYER:
Father, please help me to live and check my life in view of rapture. Amen.

DO WE DESERVE ASKING FOR GOD’S FAVOUR ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

TUESDAY 25 August 2020

Topic: *DO WE DESERVE ASKING FOR GOD’S FAVOUR ❓*

Text: Psalm 5:12; 84: 10-12

MESSAGE: Understanding what favour mean is crucial to understanding how it works. The word ‘favour’ was chosen by Bible translator as the closest English word to the original Hebrew “ratsown”, which means “pleasure, delight, favour, goodwill, and acceptance.” Our English word for favour has several meanings which are worth looking at:

❗ Something done or granted out of goodwill, rather than from justice or for remuneration; a kind act.
❗. Friendly or well-disposed regard; goodwill.
❗ The state of being approved or held in regard.
❗. Excessive kindness or unfair partiality; preferential treatment.

Most of us understand that when we ask God to do something for us, we’re asking for favour. It’s something that He would do out of His goodwill not because we deserve it. That’s the first definition of favour. But, when we ask God specifically for His favour on our live or over a situation, many of us do not understand what we are really asking. We’re are moving into second, third, and fourth definitions of favour and that’s where thing get a little murky. Being held in high regard; excessive kindness; preferential treatment: are we really supposed to be asking for these things as favour from the Lord?

As we study the Bible, you will notice that there are many people who asked specifically for favour and received it; Jacob, Moses, Ruth, and Nehemiah. Since there is no respect of persons with God, as you ask for His favour today, rest assured that He will answer you. But, let your request for His favour be in line with His goodwill and word.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
A day of favour can be more rewarding than a year of labour.

PRAYER:
Lord, show me your favour and goodwill today.

ARE YOU RESPONDING TO YOUR ABILITY ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Monday 24 August 2020

Text:
John 13:1-15

TOPIC:
ARE YOU RESPONDING TO YOUR ABILITY❓

Memory Verse:
John 13:15

Message:
Once upon a time, there were four men named: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. But, Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it. But, Nobody did it. Somebody got angry  about it because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it and Nobody realised that Everybody would not do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody that Nobody did the Job that Anybody could have done in the first place.

Our lesson today calls for taking personal responsibility to serve others. It requires a commitment to the slogan: “If it is going to be, it is up to me.” The meal was ready but their feet were dirty. There was no servant who could wash their feet. Everybody was waiting for somebody to Volunteer to do it and Nobody Volunteered to do it. Then the Lord deliberately took over the responsibility in order to teach them that unforgettable lesson of humility. He washed their feet one after another.

Today and whenever duty calls, do not wait for somebody. Nobody may rise to the responsibility, so make up your mind to do it. Tell yourself that if you don’t do it, it may not get done.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Irresponsibility means not responding to one’s ability.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to always demonstrate responsibility by serving others.

Song of Solomon 4-5; Ephesians 1
