DO YOU THINK GOD IS DONE WITH YOU ❓

Matthew 2:13-23

Topic:
DO YOU THINK GOD IS DONE WITH YOU❓

Memory verse:
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:4).

Message:
Just when Joseph and Mary were getting settled in Egypt, God instructed them to pack up and return to Israel. When they got there, they could not go back home because it was not yet safe. However, God directed them to go to Nazareth.

The story may sound simple to today’s readers of the Bible. But in the New Testament time, it was quite an arduous task considering the mode of transportation, the difficult terrain, the distance and all the tensions involved in these movements, Yet, it all ended well under divine watch.

Had there been times you wondered why God chose to deal with you the way He did? However, even you did not understand His dealing, all He did was an expression of His love and goodness. Your journey so far may not be what you had bargained for from the beginning but God is at work for eternity. All things are working for your good. No matter how events have unfolded around you, lift up a grateful heart to the one who has brought you this far. He is not done with you.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
A living dog is better than a dead lion.

PRAYER:
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Amen.

BIBLE READING FOR THE YEAR:
1Samuel 17-18; 2Peter 2

DO YOU KNOW THE DANGERS OF PRIDE ❓

2Kings 5:1-12

Topic:
DO YOU KNOW THE DANGERS OF PRIDE❓

Memory verse:
“Whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted” (Luke 14:11).

Message:
Naaman arrived Israel purposely for the healing of his leprosy. As he got to the house of the Prophet Elisha, who was to pray for his healing and with his entourage on horses and chariots, the prophet did not come out to welcome him. Rather, the prophet sent him information to go to River Jordan and dip himself in water for seven times, in order to be healed of his leprosy.

Naaman could not take this; he felt humiliated and not respected by the prophet. How dare the prophet ask him to go to River Jordan and take a bath? Is he insinuating that he did not take his bath before coming or the one he took in Syrian river was not good enough? Does it mean he did not know the kind of personality who came to see him? Did he know that he was dealing with the Commander of the host of Syrian army? The above were probably questions that filled Naaman’s mind.

Naaman went away in anger until his servants begged him to go back and obey the prophet. When he did, the leprosy left him. If he had remained angry and in his arrogance had refused to do what Elisha asked him to do, he would have remained a leper all his life. What a shame it would have been to such a prestigious man!

Many times we have lost great opportunities because of pride. People have cut short apprenticeship because their master was rude to them. People have even left the church because the pastor scolded them over a wrong attitude. A lady moved out of her elder sister’s house because her sister demanded that she should help take care of her babies. And she is not faring any better today.

Jesus said if a man does not humble himself he may not be exalted. Many great masters today were once servants. The great prophet Elisha once poured water into the hands of Elijah (2Kings 2:11). After he had completed his service in humility and faithfulness, the master showed him the way that catapulted him to greater prophetic height. Elisha eventually got the double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Humility is a virtue that leads to exaltation. Avoid pride; God brings down the proud.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
He that humbles himself shall be exalted.

PRAYER:
God, give me the heart to serve in humility for that is the pathway to honour. Amen.

ARE YOU STILL HIDING ❓

Luke 8:16-18

Topic:
ARE YOU STILL HIDING❓

Memory verse:
“For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open” (Luke 8:17).

Message:
Our text is drawn from the eschatology discourse of the Lord. However, it equally captures some of the things happening in our world today as a result of the increasing advance in technology. True to the words of our Lord, technology revolution is opening up the world in tremendous ways. It keeps forcing on us more and more openness in almost everything we do. Daily, we see collaborations happen on astronomical basis- both by choice and by force.

Courtesy of the “smartphone technology”. We hardly can tell these days whose camera is on us. Even in our most vulnerable moments, we don’t know whose video camera is recording us and streaming our lives on the internet for the whole world to see. Just by a click or a push of a button, most of those things we thought to be secret and private, could be spread across the globe (via the internet) by someone whom we may not even know was around us.

Simply put, we’re now compelled to live most aspects of our lives in the OPEN – both consciously and unconsciously. Our boundaries, both as individuals and as institutions (both sacred and secular), are now becoming more and more porous, fluent and open.

Knowing that we’re becoming more revealing, it is now an age of compulsory openness. Some people somewhere might have already scrutinized and shared globally that which we thought was a secret and protected. And if we’re found to be lacking in integrity, if we’re found to be the very opposite of the very things we advocate, that will be terribly pathetic.

Integrity, therefore, has become an indispensable asset we all must possess in this age of compulsory openness! In all we do, we must stick, not only to worthy goals, but to godly values, also. Preserve your integrity in the contemporary world.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Integrity is an indispensable asset in this open society.

PRAYER:
Lord, I pray for uncommon integrity. Amen.

Song of Solomon 6-8; Ephesians 2

WHAT A GREAT LOVE ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Thursday 08 OCTOBER 2020

Text:
John 15:9-14

TOPIC:
WHAT A GREAT LOVE❓

Memory Verse:
John 15:13

Message:
In September 2018, the news went viral that Rev. Father Charles Chukwukelue Ebele, the Parish Priest of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Inoma in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State had lost his life in a boat accident. But, what really captured the attention of the world to his death was that he had given out his life jacket to save his friend when their boat was about to capsize on the Anambra river.

The incident sufficiently takes our minds to the sacrifice made for mankind’s salvation by Jesus Christ over 2000 year ago. The difference though is that while the Rev. Father’s death saved his friend, the sacrifice of Jesus was for the entire human race from the power of sin and eternal damination in hell. What sacrifice are you prepared to make to share the gospel and save the soul of your friends, relations, neighbours and kinsmen who are still living in sin?

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
One of the seven social sins is worship without sacrifice.

PRAYER:
O Lord, give me the grace to do what is in my power to bring souls into Your kingdom following the example of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

BIBLE READING FOR THE YEAR:
2 Samuel 6-8;  1 John 1

WHAT IS BETTER THAN LIFE ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL.

Tuesday 06 October 2020

Text :
Psalm 63:1-7

Topic :
WHAT IS BETTER THAN LIFE❓

Memory verse:
Psalm 63:3

Message:
Of course, even a little child knows that the most cherished thing in the universe is life. Nothing commands a higher Value of greater attention and care than the physical life we have now. Nothing is more expensive, better maintained and nourished than life. People would give anything to save their life when it is threatened by disease or danger. Some even do the outrageous things just to keep body and soul together!

However, divine wisdom punches a big hole on our mediocre efforts to enthrone physical life as the ultimate. It tells us about something better than this our physical life and it is called God’s loving Kindness.

Loving kindness is taken from the Hebrew word “Hesed” which represents God’s highest level of Mercy, love, Kindness, favour, grace, goodness, forgiveness, and deliverance. God created man for His pleasure; but in His loving kindness, He gave man eternal life (John 3:16). God’s loving kindness is made available to keep and preserve you until you enter life through Jesus Christ. May He command His loving kindness on you today to keep and preserve you to see and enter eternal life through Christ His son. Amen.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
God’s loving kindness is available to you if you put your trust in Him.

PRAYER:
O God, cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do i put my trust, Amen.
