ARE YOU REAL OR IMPERSONATING❓

Memory Verse:
1 Kings 14:6

MESSAGE:
Impersonation is one act that is gradually eating the moral fabrics of our society. A lot of people these days pretend to be what they are not. Some people pretend to be rich when they are not. Many pretend to be Honest and Humble when they are not. Worsening it still, others pretend to be born again when in truth they are only being religious.

What we do not usually realise is that it is futile to impersonate another person in the presence of the Holy Spirit. This was what King Jeroboam and his wife perhaps did not know. So they were caught up in the trick.

When was the last time you attempted disguising yourself claiming to be what you are not and pretending to be someone else? If you will be sincere enough, you will admit that every act of impersonation is a loss of self-confidence and identity. And when the person is caught, the consequences are pathetic.

Who knows if the King and his wife had been sincere whether God would have shown them greater mercies? Of course, God is always merciful to those who are sincerely penitent. We should also pray to be as discerning as prophet Abijah: though physically he was almost blind, yet his spiritual antennas were very sharp and connected. And thus he was not deceived by the impersonator.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Living a fake life will always prove disappointing at the end of the day. Always
Note that the worst deceit is self deceit

PRAYER:
Lord, please help me to over coming all the trappings of pretense.

IS THERE NO BALM IN GILEAD❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text:
Jeremiah 8:20-22; Mark 6:1-6

TOPIC:
IS THERE NO BALM IN GILEAD❓

Memory Verse:
Jeremiah 8:22

MESSAGE:
The prophet Jeremiah was evidently worried that the changes in the times and seasons of the year did not bring a change of fortunes for his people. The harvest and the summer are seasons of great expectations and usually mark a time of joy and great excitement. But, for Israel, it was rather a time of sorrow, pain and anxiety. So Jeremiah began to ask: “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?

Jeremiah’s worry, of course, was neither because there was no balm in Gilead nor because there was no physician. The problem was that the people utterly refused to avail themselves of the provisions of the balm and the care of the physician. They knew about the balm of Gilead, it’s medicinal and cosmetic values. They knew about the physician, Jehovah Rapha, but they preferred something else. This is the bug of familiarity.

How often we are tempted to neglect the things that are freely given to us. We look down on our Pentecostal heritage. We despise the ministry of our Pastors perhaps because they are not the flamboyant types. In Mark 6, the people of Nazareth did not receive miracles of healing and deliverance because they despised the person and ministry of Jesus Christ. We need to appreciate the provisions God had already made available to us. We cannot afford to wallow in darkness when light has been provided for us.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
What we do not value will not benefit our lives.

PRAYER:
Lord, teach me to celebrate all the valuable people and things you have placed around me.

HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU❓

TOPIC:
HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU❓

KEY VERSE:
1 Cor. 10:12

MESSAGE:
Daniel chapter 5 records the decline and fall of the great Babylonian kingdom which rose to the peak under the despot king, Nebuchadnezzar. Nothing is permanent in life except change. Belshazzar was a grandson to Nebuchadnezzar. He served as co-regent with his father Nabonidus. Belshazzar had the opportunity to rule one of the most famous kingdoms of the Middle East in the Ancient world. But, he lost it because of pride and over-confidence.

He organized a feast when he was expected to be on guard over Medes and Persia combined forces against his kingdom under Cyrus. At the time of the feast, Babylon was already surrounded by soldiers. He relied completely on Babylon’s impregnable walls. In his drunken state, Belshazzar gave an order that the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem be brought so that “the king and his lord’s, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them” (v2). Belshazzar and his guests did not only drink from the Lord’s vessels but also praised their pagan idols (v4). By drinking from God’s golden vessels, the King dishonored the living God.

While they were having this profane feast, God came in His anger and a man’s “fingers appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the King’s palace; and the King saw the part of the hand that wrote”(v5). At this the King’s countenance changed, and fear griped him, “… the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other” (v6). Daniel was brought and he interpreted each word (v26-28).

📌MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it.
📌TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.
📌PERES: Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

He received a “Red Card”. That same night he was killed and his kingdom was taken over by the Medes and Persia (v31). Don’t be like Belshazzar.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
True confidence must be centered on God.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to rely fully on You.

DO YOU WANT TO BE RESCUED BY JESUS❓

Text:
John 8:1-11

TOPIC:
DO YOU WANT TO BE RESCUED BY JESUS❓

Memory Verse:
John 8:9

MESSAGE:
Jesus dropped a conscience searching bombshell in a statement when He gave all those accusing the woman who was caught in the ‘very act of adultery. He said, if you do not have any sin, be the first to cast a stone at this woman’.

They, being convicted by their individual consciences of their own sins, dropped their stones and left. There is enough power in the words of Jesus to drop every stone that has been lifted against you.

Sometimes, those that want to destroy others are not better than those they are seeking to destroy. They may be guiltier of same offences for which they want another dead and out of their way. The good news is that Jesus is still in the rescue ministry, saving lives and fixing destinies.

Guilty or guiltless, one word from Jesus will drop those stones already lifted by the devil and his agents against you. Are you under any form of attack? Go to Jesus. Let Him speak to you and for you and those lifted stones will drop.

Do not be caught in the trap of wilful disobedience. As you are set free, go and sin no more.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Jesus is our Advocate.

PRAYER:
Father, deliver me from the hands of those who seek to destroy me.

ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR VICTORY❓

TOPIC:
ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR VICTORY❓

Memory Verse:
Exodus 17:12

MESSAGE:
Most times people pass through the church without many understanding of what their spiritual leaders go through to bring about  the victories and testimonies God cause to manifest in the  services and families. The text gives us a glimpse of what spiritual leaders go through. Joshua just finished an ad-hoc military screening exercise and proceeded to war against Amalek. Moses climbed the hill with the rod in his hand. Instead of resting a bit, he discovered that his hand must remain up if victory must be won at the war.

In a bid to do this, the old man must sit comfortably on an uncomfortable stone with his hands pulled and steadied untill sunset and Aaron and Hur must stand up all day long holding up his hands. All these hardness they faced ministering unto the Israelites who didn’t know anything about what was happening behind the scenes.

It is possible that  you are a spiritual leader and your followers are ignorant of the heavy toll the task is taking on you. Please rest assured that  God knows your pains and is raising helpers to hold up your hands. Could it also be that you are one of the followers? Let today’s lesson challenge you to move into the field like Joshua or climb up the hill like Aaron and Hur to uphold the hands of your Moses.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
God’s true soldiers endure hardship and pains.

PRAYER:
Lord, make me a vessel of encouragement to my spiritual leaders.

WILL YOU ALLOW GOD TO RETURN UNTO YOU❓. Abraham had welcomed God (who appeared unto him in the form of three men) into his house. He fed them and comforted their hearts. It was ‘in the heat of the day’ for Abraham. As they ate, God spoke up…. Setting an appointment, He promised to return unto Sarah the next year and give her a son.

This is the good news for you today: ‘God will return unto you. You may have served Him diligently for years and offered Him your best ‘in the heat of your day’ when everything was not comfortable; yet it seems as if your visitation is delayed. God has not forgotten you. He will return unto you.

He took that seed from your hands. Yes, He accepted your sacrifices and kingdom services you rendered and have kept rendering until now. He has not forgotten your offerings and services unto Him. He has set an appointment for your visitation. He will return unto you. Wipe your tears for there is an appointment God has set for you. You may not know the appointed day or time but like Abraham and Sarah, keep standing in His services for your labour will not be in vain. The Almighty God will return to you.

CAN YOU LIVE WITHOUT A STAIN❓ Integrity is a scarce commodity in our world today. However, there are still people who could be relied on in terms of faithfulness and honesty. Can you be relied on? Clink on the Link to read more

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text: Daniel 6:1-11

TOPIC: CAN YOU LIVE WITHOUT A STAIN❓

KEY VERSE:
Dan. 6:4

MESSAGE:
Integrity is a scarce commodity in our world today. However, there are still people who could be relied on in terms of faithfulness and honesty. Can you be relied on? Daniel was such a person. His rivals could not find any fault against him because there was no “skeleton in his cupboard”. His determination to do God’s will at his teenage years remained in him even at old age. At this time, Daniel was over 80years old. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

It is said that one of the best ways to influence non-christian employers is to work diligently and responsibly. Daniel is an example. How well do you represent God before your employer or colleagues? Daniel conducted his whole life above reproach. Of course, that earned him persecution, leading to the “Lion’s Den.” However, Daniel refused to be swayed by intimidation, ridicule and discrimination of jealous rivals and enemies. He ignored their attacks and manipulations. He continued to worship God who had cared for him throughout his life (v 10). Daniel chapter 6 presents many interesting things about the prophet Daniel:

❗His spirituality set him apart as God’s instrument for such time (v 3).
❗ He was a preferred man. (V3).
❗He was a praying man (v 10).
❗He was a praising man (v 10).
❗He was a persecuted man (v 1).
❗ He was a protected man (v 21,22).
❗ He was a prosperous man (v 28).

God is worthy of our trust. We must stay true to Him despite persecutions and trials of our faith. Let us completely rely on God for protection (v 22). A man under God’s backing can never be harmed by spiritual lions “…if God is for us, who can be against us?” (Room. 8:31).

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Remain focused in your services to God and man.

PRAYER:
Lord, give me courage to remain faithful.

ARE YOU A FAITHFUL SERVANT ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Thursday 11 July, 2019

Text:
Hebrews 3:1-6

TOPIC:
ARE YOU A FAITHFUL SERVANT❓

Memory Verse:
Hebrews 3:1-2

MESSAGE:
God places great dividend on faithfulness. It appears to be the main acid test of the services of the elects to God from the history of God’s people over time. Christ’s ministry was predicted on faithfulness as we see in the above Scripture. The measure of our final worth when our services will come to the end will be based on it. Yet, many tend to rationalise everything as a product of situational ethics.

To be faithful means: to be reliable, dependable, truthful, the ability to do what one says one will do; ability to maintain one’s stand ability to do what one is required to do. It is unfortunate that faithfulness is becoming a very rare virtue. But, those who want to attain divine recommendation like Moses did must give attention to it since it is most rewarding.

A story has it that a man forgot a briefcase in a taxi. The briefcase contained vital valuables. When the driver discovered it, he was at crossroads on how to handle the situation. He later recalled that a member of his household said it was an answer to prayer and advised him to keep them but he refused. He launched out in search of the rightful owner and eventually succeeded. And to the glory of God that singular act earned him a permanent employment in the Government.

Every faithful Service has a reward. Conversely, every unfaithful service also has a reward. The choice is yours.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Every service has a commensurate reward in time and in eternity.

PRAYER:
My Lord and Father, help me to always remember that  every service will be accordingly rewarded and help me to make the right choices.

HOW ARE YOU DEALING WITH YOUR ANGRY EMOTION❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Wednesday 10 July, 2019

Text:
Ephesians 4:26-27

TOPIC:
HOW ARE YOU DEALING WITH YOUR ANGRY EMOTION❓

KEY VERSE:
Ephesians 4:26

MESSAGE:
Anger can be defined as intense displeasure, often, with an urge for retaliation. It is a display of negative emotion because one feels aggrieved. There are two ways one can express anger. One can either blow up when aggrieved or suppress (bottle up) one’s feelings. Whichever way, uncontrolled anger can be dangerous – even devastating. Bottled up anger is like acid that can corrode the vessel in which it is stored.

An English Anatomist, Dr. John Hunter, while presenting an academic seminar to prove that anger has the capacity to destroy the one who harbors it, got locked in an argument that infuriated him very badly. Consequently, he suffered heart attack and died instantly. Anger can cause heart attack. Medical experts say that 60-80% of sickness prevalent in the society are emotionally induced. These include headache, ulcer, stroke, arthritis, high blood pressure and kidney disorders.

Spiritually, anger grieves the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:27). It affects one’s prayer life and relationship with God. This, little wonder, was why Moses could not enter the Promised Land. No matter how anointed a man may be, he becomes disconnected spiritually once he is enraged.

Meanwhile, the scriptures do not condemn anger per session, after all, anger is a natural and reflex phenomenon. It is also a universal feature of all living things -even animals and God Himself get angry. What is evil is display of sinful actions because one is angry. “Be angry but do not sin”.

Getting angry because you are hurt is not sin but remaining angry to the point of bitterness, keeping malice and outright hatred against the person that hurt you is sin. Anger has separated homes and turned love-birds into arch-enemies. It has led to bloodshed. All wars are products of anger; even innocent persons have become victims of anger due to “misplaced aggression”. The list is endless. Anger therefore, is better controlled than expressed.
Even the Nigerian slapping Senator did all he did based on an uncontrollable anger

To check angry emotion, learn to exercise self-control. Say no to the urge for retaliation (Prov. 12:16).❗ Tolerate and forgive others; it is human to err. Be diplomatic in dealing with those who are already boiling with rage (Prov. 15:1). ❗Quit hostile environment until normalcy returns (Prov. 17:14). ❗Above all, be spirit-controlled.❗

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Anger is like acid that corrodes the vessel in which it is stored.

PRAYER:
God, give me grace to control my angry emotion.

ARE YOU LAYING A SOLID FOUNDATION❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Tuesday 9 July 2019

Text:
Matthew 7:24-29

TOPIC:
ARE YOU LAYING A SOLID FOUNDATION❓

Memory Verse:
1 Tim 6:19

MESSAGE:
, Building Engineers everywhere know that solid foundation is very essential in building. In countries where earthquakes occur regularly, the importance of a solid foundation can never be over-emphasised. It is the only reason why some buildings are not swept off under the torrent of earthquakes. But those building without good and solid foundation are easily swept away. That is the reason why the Lord Jesus used the language of construction to teach us the wisdom of living and building on the solid foundation of God’s Word, so that when we are shaken by lives’ adversities and challenges, we do not allow the tempest to swallow us.

According to our text, we really need to lay solid foundation upon The Rock- Jesus, for our lives, familes and children. The Christian man needs a good foundation for his family because the family is God’s solution to problems of humanity. If the foundation of any family is solidly laid on the Rock, the parents and children grow to portray a good image of Christ to the entire world. The society at large be a better and safer place to live in.

Beloved of God, please note that hearing or preaching the word of God is not enough Bricks for the laying of the solid foundation. The Bricks for the foundation cannot be complete without the doing part of it. Many believers today concentrate more on the hearing and preaching of the word and leave out the DOING. But today, let it be known to all of us that the hearing and doing of the word of the Master is what makes for a solid foundation.

Foundation without Christ makes all other ground a sinking sand.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Hearing and doing the word of God is what is required for laying a solid foundation in the Christian faith

PRAYER:
Oh, Lord, help me to build a solid foundation that can withstand the storms and quakes of life.
