Text:
1 Samuel 15:10 -19

Topic:
ARE YOU STILL IN DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD❓

Memory verse:
1 Samuel 15:22b – 23a.

Message:
People give instructions to other people daily in different spheres and they expect obedience to such instructions. If human beings can expect total obedience from their fellow human beings whom they did not create, how much more God, the Creator of the whole universe?

In the text herein, God had instructed prophet Samuel to direct King Saul to smite Amalek and utterly destroy everything that had breath sparing nothing, both men, women, and animals. This was their punishment for their bastardly act against the children of Israel when they left Egypt, on their way to Canaan. Saul had partially obeyed God by destroying everything, except king Agag of Amalek, the best of sheep, oxen, darlings, lambs and all that was good in his sight. This act of disobedience greatly angered God and God regretted the day He made Saul the king of Israel. This also grieved prophet Samuel. Prophet Samuel then went to King Saul on God’s instructions.

The prophet Samuel asked king Saul a very pertinent question and made the following remarks, “Has the Lord a great delight in burnt  offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey (the Lord) is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams? For rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”

Often, people disobey God not minding the consequences of such disobedience. We take God for granted just because we are in the dispensation of Grace. This is not good. Obey God and His Word, so that you can escape the consequences of disobedience which include pain, sorrow, death, hellfire and other negative consequences.

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
Disobedience to God has negative consequences.

PRAYER:
Lord, give me the grace  to obey You always. Amen
