Topic :
ARE YOU ENCOURAGING OTHERS❓

Memory verse:
Phil. 1:7

Message:
Encouragement, according to Online Dictionary.com, is the act of giving hope or support to someone; the expression of approval and support. That which serves to incite, support, promote or advance, as favour, countenance. The newspapers and indeed the news media are filled with discouraging pieces of news items. At home and business locations, the story is the same. Even among the elects, the scenario is not different. There is vacancy for ENCOURAGERS in the body of Christ. Paul and Timothy in spite of their experience and out-of- this-world anointing, they acknowledged the encouragement Brother Philemon meted out to them (Phil 1:7). Our text talks about encouragement. You will quickly notice that Priscilla and Aquila’s family provided the platform Appollos needed to boost his ministry. In later development, Appollos and Paul were evenly classified by the churcges in Corinth. Imagine if the encouragement of the Aquila’s was not in place.

For several generations on the West African sub region, the rites of passage from boyhood to adulthood among the various tribes included words of impartation. The traditional words of the fathers to their sons have been, “Do not be afraid.” “Be courageous.” This was succinctly captured by Camara Laye in his book “African Child”, where he relived his own solitude in the woods. Along with other boys he kept vigil in a forest filled with night noises and nocturnal animals. It was a terrifying experience to the boys because each one was not sure what will happen next. The boys will always remember the words of encouragement of their fathers whenever the temptation to retreat and surrender filled their hearts. At the break of the day, each boy discovers that he was never really alone, for their fathers kept vigil with weapons, to ensure no harm befalls their sons. The boys were never told in advance. All they were told was, ” Be courageous and be not afraid.” By this a boy becomes a man when he trust his father’s words enough not cry or scream throughout the night even when afraid.

A Christian becomes mature when he trusts and obeys the word of God. We have been helped to help others, encouraged – to pass it on. Don’t break the flow at your corner especially the newly converted brethren and those going through difficult times.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
You are encouraged to encourage others. Don’t be a circuit- breaker

PRAYER:
Father, help me to take your words to heart. Amen.

HAVE YOU INVITED GOD ON YOUR CASE ❓

John 5:2 -9

Topic :
HAVE YOU INVITED GOD, ON YOUR CASE❓

Memory verse:
Psalm 46:1

Message :
A testimony was shared of a particular lady who received an extraordinary miracle because she trusted her God and persisted. Her sister/friend entered secondary school in one of the states in the north. She was an Igbo girl. She had decided to read any science related course in the university. So she chose science in her class 3 (then there was no Junior secondary and senior secondary). She was born-again and in charge of the school fellowship. She knew she was not too good in sciences but because of her future ambition she took sciences and decided to work extra hard.

After exams for first, second and third terms, she failed physics woefully but managed to just pass Chemistry and Biology. When the same thing happened again at the end of class four, some friends advised her to take to Arts instead. But she continued, both to pray for God’s intervention and to study even harder. To the amazement of every staff and students of the school, when their WAEC result was released, she emerged the best student, not  only in her school but in the whole state. She did not succeed so extraordinarily just because she studied very hard but because she also invited the ever present help, the Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, into her case.

The story of the man with infirmity for thirty-eight years from the passage we read, is another good example of the demonstration of the power of our Captain over failure. The man had tried several years to step into the pool first after the move of the angel but failed at each attempt. But when the Captain who has no failure in His record appfailureon Lord before whom there is no impossibility, his situation changed for good. He got what he could not get in over thirty years in a flash.

Are you in need of help? Have you tried severally in  the business, exam, marriage, admission into  higher institution, skill acquisition and a lot more and failed, turn to our super Captain who is Omniscient and omnipotent, He will help you today. If the sister in our story excelled at the end after her previous failures, the man at the pool succeeded after several failure don’t be afraid of your past failures; hold on, your victory is at the door.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
Where Jesus is, there is no permanent defeat for His children

PRAYER:
Even after several failures, oh Lord give me strength to hold on and march  forward. Amen.

ARE YOU STILL IN DARKNESS ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Wednesday 11 March, 2020

Text:
Matthew 5:13-18

Topic: ARE YOU STILL IN DARKNESS❓

Memory verse:
Matthew 5:16

Message:
Anything compared with light must be something that direct the paths of others. When the Bible says, “We are the light of the world,” that means the world is in total DARKNESS and people that live there need help. They need helping hands to show them the way, the way to walk, work, and dress, even to eat. Nothing good and reasonable can be done in the dark because it is a hopeless situation. But, immediately light shines, everywhere, everybody even children are turned on.

The Bible passage puts it very clearly that we are the light of the world. No reasonable person lights a lantern, puts it inside a cupboard and locks the cupboard up. The lantern will be useless because it cannot serve it’s real purpose likewise every child of God. You cannot claim to have received Christ into your life as your Lord and personal Saviour, spirit-filled and still walk in darkness or lead others into darkness. Yes, when you cannot forgive others, you lie, bear false witness, steal, keep malice, fight one another and do a lot more. The unbelievers around you will then feel everyone does the same thing. You become a stumbling block to those who may have seen or heard you mention the name of the Lord.

Child of God, begin to radiate the light in you so that men around you can see and glorify your Father in heaven. Come off those ugly lives that bring shame to your Father and leave the ungodly in perpetual darkness. Let this song be your song today. “This little light of me, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…”

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
Do not put your light under a bushel.

PRAYER:
Remind me always, my Father, that I must shine forth to your praise and glory. Amen.

WHAT SERVICES CAN YOU RENDER TO YOUR GENERATION ❓

GEN. 2:15 -16

Topic:
WHAT SERVICES CAN YOU RENDER TO YOUR GENERATION❓

Memory verse:
Act 13:36

Message:
Every man is where he is by God’s eternal purpose. The reason God places man where He decides is for man to be instrument of life, progress and encouragement in his environment. If man resolves otherwise, God’s purpose can be delayed but cannot be thwarted, though man may harm himself by so doing.

In the text above, God placed Adam in a garden and directed him on what to do, namely, dress the garden, keep the garden and He rewarded his labour. This is the principle of life – work and reward.

David served his generation by the will of God. Some serve through self-will (selfishness), others serve the devil by destruction of lives, properties and reeling pains and misery on their environments and themselves.

When we yield ourselves as instrument of righteousness, certain things will result:

* Our generation will be better than we met it.
* People will be happy to meet us.
* Live will be secured.
* Properties will be secured as well.
* We will see our services as privileges.
* Many will seek God.
* God will be happy for a life well lived.

The story of Jean Basquiat, a black American Artist, will always come to mind. Highly talented and passionate on his calling but due to carelessness and misplacement of priorities, he died a miserable death as a drug addict in his twenties. After 29 years of his death, one of his artworks was sold for over $50 billion in 2017; in the previous year 2016, a similar artwork of his garnered about $25 billion purchased by an Asian business tycoon. Mr Jean lived a self-willed life. His lifestyles hurt him but God’s word was unscathed. The choices is ours.

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
If we yield ourselves as instruments of righteousness, our world will be better.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to be an instrument of righteousness and progress. Amen.

IS IT BY YOUR STRENGTH ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Topic :
IS IT BY YOUR STRENGTH❓

Memory verse:
Zech 4:6

Message :
Many people in the world today credit their success, victory and every progress of life, to themselves. They claim that they succeeded by their struggle, hard work, knowing many influential people (nepotism). But any child of God that reasons that way has become a God to himself/herself. God created and expects man to place his total dependency on Him.

God spoke in Zech. 4:6-7 that it was not by the power of Zerubbabel but He, the all-powerful God, will make plain, every mountain that stood or that will rise against him. God also makes it clear that it is not Zerubbabel’s power but by His grace. Where we read also in 1Cor. 1:26-29, the Bible reminds us that God does not regard the mighty but chooses the weak and foolish things of the world to attain unbelievable achievements on earth. That is why He could not use any of David’s older brothers, the ones known and recognized by even President Saul as trained soldiers. He chose to bring down Goliath through David, the almost insignificant among his brethren lest they rise up to boast that it was by their military skill and power. It could only take the power of God to kill such a giant that made the whole army of Israel quake and David acknowledged that. He says, “This day will
the Lord deliver thee into mine hand…”

Do you want God to demonstrate His power through you? Then you must be ready to become a tool in His hands. You must be ready to carry out His instructions to the latter, even if they sound or appear foolish. Bury your wisdom, strength and ability in His all-powerful strength. Submit totally to Him and see Him use you to crush even seeming insurmountable problems to His glory.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
No flesh should glory before God.

PRAYER:
Oh Lord, help me to always recognize that it is only by Your  strength. Amen.
