WILL YOU ABUSE THE GRACE âť“

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Monday 25 November 2019

Text:
Romans 6:1-2

TOPIC:
WILL YOU ABUSE THE GRACEâť“

Memory Verse:
Galatians 5:13

Message:
Addressing those early Jewish Christians, Paul saw the need to help them understand that the doctrine of grace, which he had maintained, was not a license to sin-i.e., grace does not allow the indulgence of sinful desires and corrupt passions. Though freed from the rites and ceremonies of Mosaic laws, it was only freedom from that which would oppress the spirit; not from that which lays restraint on the flesh. In other words, he was warning them to not abuse grace.

A preacher of grace or one who believes in free grace, and yet lives carelessly in sin or worldliness doesn’t really understand what grace is all about. The same gospel that proclaimed to us liberty from ceremonial law, equally binds us still faster under the moral law (1 John2:3-6). Having received God’s infinitely gracious gift in salvation through Jesus (John 3:16; Rom 5:8), we should, out of gratitude, live to please, and not satisfy our fleshly desires (Rom 12:1-2).

As Christians, we’re not under the Old Testament Law. But, that doesn’t mean we’re not under any law at all; for we’re under the Law of Christ. It is a law of love (Matt 22:37-40). Keeping that law isn’t what makes us Christians, but it is what God expects us to live by because we are Christians. As David. Ogbueli wrote, “He who has given us grace, a new heart, and a new nature has truly deprived us of all excuse if we do not live for His own praise.” So, happy is that saint that rejoices in the Free Grace God has provided, but never forgets to WATCH, PRAY, and put his or her body under subjection, lest he or she falls into temptation!

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Let’s not abuse grace. Instead, let’s keep walking in the newness of the life we received in Christ.

PRAYER:
Lord, I acknowledge that I’ve been bought with a price. I therefore commit to live for You and You alone.

CAN YOU MEMORIZE GOD’S WORD❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 24 November 2019

Text:
Psalm 1:1-3; Colossians 3:16

TOPIC:
CAN YOU MEMORIZE GOD’S WORD❓

Memory Verse:
Psalm 119:11

MESSAGES
Scripture memorisation is becoming a lost art in Christianity. Yet, the Bible frequently urges believers to keep God’s Word within them ( Colossians 3:16; Proverbs 7:1). Moses insisted that God’s people keep His word in their hearts, write it on the wall of their houses, frame it as posters and fashion it as Bangles (Deuteronomy. 6:6-9).

Scripture memorisation is the best defense against sin and temptation (PS. 119:11, Luke 4:4-12). It is the basis of wise counsel and correction. It will engrave God’s Word in your heart. It facilities worship and fellowship. It produces new depths of holiness, maturity and security. It is a natural consequence of your love for God’s word (Psalm 119:46). Memorising at least one verse each day, you can produce amazing results in your life. You can begin with today’s memory verse.

Parents feel happy when their children memorise their books and then come out top in the class. Prizes won by children are usually objects of pride to both parents and guardians. This same way; God, our heavenly Father is happy when we memorise and meditate on His word.

Make up your mind today; memorise God’s word each day with your loved ones so that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the enemy.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Memorising God’s word is a secret to attaining new heights in Christ every day.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me learn to keep your word in my heart.

CAN YOU WAIT FOR THE TIMEâť“

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Saturday 23 November 2019

TOPIC:
CAN YOU WAIT FOR THE TIME âť“

KEY VERSE:
“You have need of patience, that …ye might receive the promise” (Heb. 10:36).

TEXT: Hebrews 10:35-39, Ecclesiastes. 3:1-3

MESSAGE:
Every day, we see people behaving as though God is never on time. We live in a restless world with impatient neighbours and busybody colleagues. We have little time for preparation and less for leisure. We wish we must be active and financially effective but often times, inactivity and structural unemployment become our lot. Realistically, it appears as though God has disappointed us. Or, is it that we have dissapointed God?

The experience of delay is written large on the lives of God’s people down through the human history, as observed in time and fufilment of bringing Isreal out of Egypt according to God’s promise. We even see God’s supposed silent years of our Lord Jesus in the obscure Nazareth village. Delay never thwarts God’s purpose rather it polishes His instruments.

The text for today admonishes that we need patience to hit our destinies. A universal parlance has it that winners never quit and quitters never win. A person might become a CEO at 35 of his family business and dies at 50. While another would become a CEO at 50 and live until 90 years. Someone is still single, while his/her friends got married ahead of him/her. Obama assumed office at 47 and retired at 55. Trump came to office at 70. Just as Jonathan started at 52 while buhari took over him at 73.

Absolutely, everyone in this world operates at his time zone. People around you might seem to go ahead of you. Some may seem behind you. The truth is that everyone is running his race based on his time. Do not envy any; don’t mock any. Everything operates with time. Nigeria is one hour ahead Ghana. It dosen’t make Ghanaians slower than Nigerians by any yardstick.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
On God’s hand, time is a mercy tool. For God makes everything to the elect beautiful in His time.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me the capacity to wait when You wish and to move at Your command and pace.

HAVE YOUR FAITH BEEN TRIED âť“

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Friday 22 November 2019

Text:
Genesis 22:1-6; Psalm 11:5

TOPIC:
HAVE YOUR FAITH BEEN TRIEDâť“

Memory Verse:
Psalm 11:5

Message:
The trial of our faith is the process by which our confidence in God is pruned and our hearts are freed from mundane inhibitions. It is the stuff by which are so stabilised and sufficiently equipped to be more productive in life. In fact, it is not in the habit of God to put valuable things into the hands of men whose heart He have not tried.

The trans-generational blessings that were bequeathed to Abraham was in response to his passing of that supreme test. Of course, God knew that he would pass the test, even through it was not going to be easy, because he does not test us beyond our abilities (1 Cor. 10:13). In fact, according to Apostle Peter, we are not to think of the trial of our faith as something strange (1Peter 4:12). It is God’s way of getting us more rooted in Him.

The trial of our faith can be like need to the wind that helps the traproot of a tree to go deeper into the soil or the wind that separates the chaff from the wheat. It is the fire purifies the golden parts of our character. The evidence that you have conquered greed is seen when you pass the test of giving; the proof that you are humble is when you pass the test of power and influence, and the sign that you have self-control is when you pass the pressures of lust, covetousness and temper tantrum. But the good news is that “When your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure… So that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:3-4)

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
The trial of our faith is the basis for God’s trust on us.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me the strength and wisdom to pass the various trials of my faith.

ARE YOU A CHILD OF GOD âť“

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL:

Thursday 21 November 2019

TOPIC:
ARE YOU A CHILD OF GODâť“

KEY VERSE
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).

TEXT:
Romans 8:14-17

MESSAGE:
In these days of identity crisis we need it to be resounded that we have royalty in our DNA. Every born again child of God should be proud of his or her spiritual pedigree. The knowledge that you are a child of God should sufficiently define your self-esteem, value system, worldview and modus operandi.

Interestingly, we are told that as children of God we possess all the communicative attributes of God. We are exactly like our father. “. . .For as He is, so are we in this world”(1 John 4:17). You will notice here that it did not say, “As He is, so shall we be.” It says, “As he is so are we.” Furthermore, it did not say as He is so are we going to be in heaven. No! “As He is, so are we in this world.”

This understanding should make us live as standard bearers. We are to exercise authority on earth as Jesus did. We are to be the carriers of the presence of Jesus. We are not to be afraid of the devil for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We are to live with the full assurance that His divine power has made available for us all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). We are to live as Jesus lived when He was here on earth. As children of God, we should avoid all sort of negative confession, we should avoid every form of fear, we should learn on how to talk to our challenges instead. For the God we serve doesn’t fail.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Our authority is in our identity.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to appreciate the fact that I am Your child and a joint-heir with Christ.
