IS THERE NO BALM IN GILEAD❓

TOPIC:
IS THERE NO BALM IN GILEAD❓

Memory Verse:
Jeremiah 8:22

MESSAGE:
The prophet Jeremiah was evidently worried that the changes in the times and seasons of the year did not bring a change of fortunes for his people. The harvest and the summer are seasons of great expectations and usually mark a time of joy and great excitement. But, for Israel, it was rather a time of sorrow, pain and anxiety. So Jeremiah began to ask: “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?

Jeremiah’s worry, of course, was neither because there was no balm in Gilead nor because there was no physician. The problem was that the people utterly refused to avail themselves of the provisions of the balm and the care of the physician. They knew about the balm of Gilead, it’s medicinal and cosmetic values. They knew about the physician, Jehovah Rapha, but they preferred something else. This is the bug of familiarity.

How often we are tempted to neglect the things that are freely given to us. We look down on our Pentecostal heritage. We despise the ministry of our Pastors perhaps because they are not the flamboyant types. In Mark 6, the people of Nazareth did not receive miracles of healing and deliverance because they despised the person and ministry of Jesus Christ. We need to appreciate the provisions God had already made available to us. We cannot afford to wallow in darkness when light has been provided for us.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
What we do not value will not benefit our lives.

PRAYER:
Lord, teach me to celebrate all the valuable people and things you have placed around me.

HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU❓

TOPIC:
HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU❓

KEY VERSE:
1 Cor. 10:12

MESSAGE:
Daniel chapter 5 records the decline and fall of the great Babylonian kingdom which rose to the peak under the despot king, Nebuchadnezzar. Nothing is permanent in life except change. Belshazzar was a grandson to Nebuchadnezzar. He served as co-regent with his father Nabonidus. Belshazzar had the opportunity to rule one of the most famous kingdoms of the Middle East in the Ancient world. But, he lost it because of pride and over-confidence.

He organized a feast when he was expected to be on guard over Medes and Persia combined forces against his kingdom under Cyrus. At the time of the feast, Babylon was already surrounded by soldiers. He relied completely on Babylon’s impregnable walls. In his drunken state, Belshazzar gave an order that the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem be brought so that “the king and his lord’s, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them” (v2). Belshazzar and his guests did not only drink from the Lord’s vessels but also praised their pagan idols (v4). By drinking from God’s golden vessels, the King dishonored the living God.

While they were having this profane feast, God came in His anger and a man’s “fingers appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the King’s palace; and the King saw the part of the hand that wrote”(v5). At this the King’s countenance changed, and fear griped him, “… the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other” (v6). Daniel was brought and he interpreted each word (v26-28).

📌MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it.
📌TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.
📌PERES: Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

He received a “Red Card”. That same night he was killed and his kingdom was taken over by the Medes and Persia (v31). Don’t be like Belshazzar.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
True confidence must be centered on God.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to rely fully on You.

DO YOU WANT TO BE RESCUED BY JESUS❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Tuesday 16 July, 2019

Text:
John 8:1-11

TOPIC:
DO YOU WANT TO BE RESCUED BY JESUS❓

Memory Verse:
John 8:9

MESSAGE:
Jesus dropped a conscience searching bombshell in a statement when He gave all those accusing the woman who was caught in the ‘very act of adultery. He said, if you do not have any sin, be the first to cast a stone at this woman’.

They, being convicted by their individual consciences of their own sins, dropped their stones and left. There is enough power in the words of Jesus to drop every stone that has been lifted against you.

Sometimes, those that want to destroy others are not better than those they are seeking to destroy. They may be guiltier of same offences for which they want another dead and out of their way. The good news is that Jesus is still in the rescue ministry, saving lives and fixing destinies.

Guilty or guiltless, one word from Jesus will drop those stones already lifted by the devil and his agents against you. Are you under any form of attack? Go to Jesus. Let Him speak to you and for you and those lifted stones will drop.

Do not be caught in the trap of wilful disobedience. As you are set free, go and sin no more.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Jesus is our Advocate.

PRAYER:
Father, deliver me from the hands of those who seek to destroy me.

ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR VICTORY❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text:
Exodus 17:8-13

TOPIC:
ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR VICTORY❓

Memory Verse:
Exodus 17:12

MESSAGE:
Most times people pass through the church without many understanding of what their spiritual leaders go through to bring about  the victories and testimonies God cause to manifest in the  services and families. The text gives us a glimpse of what spiritual leaders go through. Joshua just finished an ad-hoc military screening exercise and proceeded to war against Amalek. Moses climbed the hill with the rod in his hand. Instead of resting a bit, he discovered that his hand must remain up if victory must be won at the war.

In a bid to do this, the old man must sit comfortably on an uncomfortable stone with his hands pulled and steadied untill sunset and Aaron and Hur must stand up all day long holding up his hands. All these hardness they faced ministering unto the Israelites who didn’t know anything about what was happening behind the scenes.

It is possible that  you are a spiritual leader and your followers are ignorant of the heavy toll the task is taking on you. Please rest assured that  God knows your pains and is raising helpers to hold up your hands. Could it also be that you are one of the followers? Let today’s lesson challenge you to move into the field like Joshua or climb up the hill like Aaron and Hur to uphold the hands of your Moses.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
God’s true soldiers endure hardship and pains.

PRAYER:
Lord, make me a vessel of encouragement to my spiritual leaders.

God bless your day… Happy Sunday

WILL YOU ALLOW GOD TO RETURN UNTO YOU❓. Abraham had welcomed God (who appeared unto him in the form of three men) into his house. He fed them and comforted their hearts. This was in the midst of Abraham’s discomfiture. It was ‘in the heat of the day’ for Abraham. As they ate, God spoke up…. Setting an appointment, He promised to return unto Sarah the next year and give her a son.

WILL YOU ALLOW GOD TO RETURN UNTO YOU❓

Memory Verse:
Genesis 18:14

MESSAGE:
Abraham had welcomed God (who appeared unto him in the form of three men) into his house. He fed them and comforted their hearts. This was in the midst of Abraham’s discomfiture. It was ‘in the heat of the day’ for Abraham. As they ate, God spoke up…. Setting an appointment, He promised to return unto Sarah the next year and give her a son.

This is the good news for you today: ‘God will return unto you. You may have served Him diligently for years and offered Him your best ‘in the heat of your day’ when everything was not comfortable; yet it seems as if your visitation is delayed. God has not forgotten you. He will return unto you.

He took that seed from your hands. Yes, He accepted your sacrifices and kingdom services you rendered and have kept rendering until now. He has not forgotten your offerings and services unto Him. He has set an appointment for your visitation. He will return unto you. Wipe your tears for there is an appointment God has set for you. You may not know the appointed day or time but like Abraham and Sarah, keep standing in His services for your labour will not be in vain. The Almighty God will return to you.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
There is nothing too hard for the LORD.

PRAYER:
Lord, return unto me with my blessings.
