CAN YOU MEMORIZE GOD’S WORD❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 24 November 2019

Text:
Psalm 1:1-3; Colossians 3:16

TOPIC:
CAN YOU MEMORIZE GOD’S WORD❓

Memory Verse:
Psalm 119:11

MESSAGES
Scripture memorisation is becoming a lost art in Christianity. Yet, the Bible frequently urges believers to keep God’s Word within them ( Colossians 3:16; Proverbs 7:1). Moses insisted that God’s people keep His word in their hearts, write it on the wall of their houses, frame it as posters and fashion it as Bangles (Deuteronomy. 6:6-9).

Scripture memorisation is the best defense against sin and temptation (PS. 119:11, Luke 4:4-12). It is the basis of wise counsel and correction. It will engrave God’s Word in your heart. It facilities worship and fellowship. It produces new depths of holiness, maturity and security. It is a natural consequence of your love for God’s word (Psalm 119:46). Memorising at least one verse each day, you can produce amazing results in your life. You can begin with today’s memory verse.

Parents feel happy when their children memorise their books and then come out top in the class. Prizes won by children are usually objects of pride to both parents and guardians. This same way; God, our heavenly Father is happy when we memorise and meditate on His word.

Make up your mind today; memorise God’s word each day with your loved ones so that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the enemy.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Memorising God’s word is a secret to attaining new heights in Christ every day.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me learn to keep your word in my heart.

CAN YOU WAIT FOR THE TIME❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Saturday 23 November 2019

TOPIC:
CAN YOU WAIT FOR THE TIME ❓

KEY VERSE:
“You have need of patience, that …ye might receive the promise” (Heb. 10:36).

TEXT: Hebrews 10:35-39, Ecclesiastes. 3:1-3

MESSAGE:
Every day, we see people behaving as though God is never on time. We live in a restless world with impatient neighbours and busybody colleagues. We have little time for preparation and less for leisure. We wish we must be active and financially effective but often times, inactivity and structural unemployment become our lot. Realistically, it appears as though God has disappointed us. Or, is it that we have dissapointed God?

The experience of delay is written large on the lives of God’s people down through the human history, as observed in time and fufilment of bringing Isreal out of Egypt according to God’s promise. We even see God’s supposed silent years of our Lord Jesus in the obscure Nazareth village. Delay never thwarts God’s purpose rather it polishes His instruments.

The text for today admonishes that we need patience to hit our destinies. A universal parlance has it that winners never quit and quitters never win. A person might become a CEO at 35 of his family business and dies at 50. While another would become a CEO at 50 and live until 90 years. Someone is still single, while his/her friends got married ahead of him/her. Obama assumed office at 47 and retired at 55. Trump came to office at 70. Just as Jonathan started at 52 while buhari took over him at 73.

Absolutely, everyone in this world operates at his time zone. People around you might seem to go ahead of you. Some may seem behind you. The truth is that everyone is running his race based on his time. Do not envy any; don’t mock any. Everything operates with time. Nigeria is one hour ahead Ghana. It dosen’t make Ghanaians slower than Nigerians by any yardstick.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
On God’s hand, time is a mercy tool. For God makes everything to the elect beautiful in His time.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me the capacity to wait when You wish and to move at Your command and pace.

HAVE YOUR FAITH BEEN TRIED ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Friday 22 November 2019

Text:
Genesis 22:1-6; Psalm 11:5

TOPIC:
HAVE YOUR FAITH BEEN TRIED❓

Memory Verse:
Psalm 11:5

Message:
The trial of our faith is the process by which our confidence in God is pruned and our hearts are freed from mundane inhibitions. It is the stuff by which are so stabilised and sufficiently equipped to be more productive in life. In fact, it is not in the habit of God to put valuable things into the hands of men whose heart He have not tried.

The trans-generational blessings that were bequeathed to Abraham was in response to his passing of that supreme test. Of course, God knew that he would pass the test, even through it was not going to be easy, because he does not test us beyond our abilities (1 Cor. 10:13). In fact, according to Apostle Peter, we are not to think of the trial of our faith as something strange (1Peter 4:12). It is God’s way of getting us more rooted in Him.

The trial of our faith can be like need to the wind that helps the traproot of a tree to go deeper into the soil or the wind that separates the chaff from the wheat. It is the fire purifies the golden parts of our character. The evidence that you have conquered greed is seen when you pass the test of giving; the proof that you are humble is when you pass the test of power and influence, and the sign that you have self-control is when you pass the pressures of lust, covetousness and temper tantrum. But the good news is that “When your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure… So that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:3-4)

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
The trial of our faith is the basis for God’s trust on us.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me the strength and wisdom to pass the various trials of my faith.

ARE YOU A CHILD OF GOD ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL:

Thursday 21 November 2019

TOPIC:
ARE YOU A CHILD OF GOD❓

KEY VERSE
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).

TEXT:
Romans 8:14-17

MESSAGE:
In these days of identity crisis we need it to be resounded that we have royalty in our DNA. Every born again child of God should be proud of his or her spiritual pedigree. The knowledge that you are a child of God should sufficiently define your self-esteem, value system, worldview and modus operandi.

Interestingly, we are told that as children of God we possess all the communicative attributes of God. We are exactly like our father. “. . .For as He is, so are we in this world”(1 John 4:17). You will notice here that it did not say, “As He is, so shall we be.” It says, “As he is so are we.” Furthermore, it did not say as He is so are we going to be in heaven. No! “As He is, so are we in this world.”

This understanding should make us live as standard bearers. We are to exercise authority on earth as Jesus did. We are to be the carriers of the presence of Jesus. We are not to be afraid of the devil for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We are to live with the full assurance that His divine power has made available for us all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). We are to live as Jesus lived when He was here on earth. As children of God, we should avoid all sort of negative confession, we should avoid every form of fear, we should learn on how to talk to our challenges instead. For the God we serve doesn’t fail.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Our authority is in our identity.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to appreciate the fact that I am Your child and a joint-heir with Christ.

CAN YOU SPEAK OUT FOR GOD ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Wednesday 20 November 2019

TOPIC:
CAN YOU SPEAK OUT FOR GOD❓

KEY VERSE:
“Therefore prepare yourself and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, lest I dismay you before them” (Jer. 1:17).

TEXT:
Exodus 4:10-12; Jeremiah 1:11-19

MESSAGE:
The message in the key verse is loud and clear: Get up! Prepare yourself! Go and speak all that God has comamnded you to speak today. Do it with a confidence in Him. The story of Moses is similar to most of our personal experiences.

When God called him to be His spokesman, his mind, rather, got fixed on his own weaknesses. “Then Moses said to the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what to say.”

You will notice here that God’s concern wasn’t Moses’ ability but availability. All God wanted was his yieldedness. The NIV translation of the verse above says “I will help you speak” while the NKJV and the NASB, says, “I will be with your mouth.”

God will be with your mouth today. He will tell you exactly what you need to say to the people He will bring across your path. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or left (Isa 30:21). Don’t let today pass by without speaking to some people on God’s behalf. Tell the people God’s Word. Be God’s spokesperson today!

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
As we open our mouths today, God will fill it with His words.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me the boldness to be Your mouth piece today.

DO YOU WANT TO LOSE “ALL” JUST BECAUSE OF”ONE”❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Tuesday 19 November 2019

Text:
Genesis 3:1-6; 22-24

Topic:
DO YOU WANT TO LOSE “ALL” JUST BECAUSE OF “ONE”❓

Memory verse:
Genesis 3:23

Message:
Very often, we do not take out time to think deeply about the consequences of each of our actions and inactions. But, the truth is that for everything we do or fail to do, there is always a follow up to it. Our prayer today should be that we do not lose so much in our effort to gain very little. In other words, we don’t have to lose our dollars while trying to gain some cents.

From our test, you will notice that by just eating a fruit, Adam and Eve lost a whole garden full of even more precious fruits. They were thrown out of the garden of Eden into a world of thorns and thistles, suffering and sweating because they made one wrong choice. The experience is also true of Esau who for just a single meal, lost the whole blessing that could have been his.

These days, we are aware that some young persons have lost some scholarship opportunities, juicy job placements, valuable mentoring relationships and other good things of life simply because they traded the immediate for the ultimate. If you do not want that to become your experience, you must develop a good sense of contentment, learn to practise delayed gratification and make a commitment of total allegiance to God’s will for your life.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Obedience to God and life of contentment can safe-guard our blessings.

PRAYER:
Help me to overcome the temptation of trading the ultimate for the immediate.

ARE YOU STILL CONTROLLED BY ANGER❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Monday 18 November 2019

*TOPIC*:
*ARE YOU STILL CONTROLLED BY ANGER❓*

*KEY VERSE*:
“Don’t sin by letting anger control you”(Ephesians 4:26).

*TEXT*:Eph. 4:26-27

*MESSAGE*:
When “ANGER” is consiously or unconsciously stored up in the heart, it becomes “DANGER”. it inevitably reflects in ones behaviour negatively. It could make one to overreact at the slightest provocation, revealing the bitterness buried in the heart. Often, such anger or bitterness is rooted in the event(s) of the past – perhaps an unfair treatment that was endured at a younger age or an abuse or insult one had to put up with at the work place or even in the street. While the one who stores up anger in his or her heart is not free, the most unfortunate thing is that those who often bear the brunt of such anger and bitterness are mostly innocent people.

Though created with a capacity of anger, the human heart is not meant to store up anger. This is because anger is like a terrible acid that inevitably destroys its container and poisons the surrounding environs. The Bible wisely instructs us to not let the sun go down while we are yet angry (Eph.4:26). In other words, we’re not to sleep over anger; for the longer anger stays in the heart, the more power it gains to control our lives, and ultimately destroys us.
in other words any delayed ANGER=DANGER

For our own good, we must get rid of anger in all it’s forms – be it stored up in our hearts or the one we “entertain” intermittently. It all begins by releasing ourselves to God, and turning over to Him whatever issue that is trying to brew and store up anger in our hearts. As we trust His love, faithfulness, and sovereignty, He will help us, release us from past hurts, give us the ability to forgive and the freedom to live above the control of anger.

*CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*:
Do not sleep over anger; for the longer anger stays in the heart, the more power it gains to control and ultimately destroy a life.

*PRAYER*:
Lord, today I release to you every anger lodged in my heart, and receive your healing and comfort. I will no longer be controlled by anger.

DO YOU KNOW❗IT IS POSSIBLE❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 17 November 2019.

Text:
Mark 7:24-30

TOPIC:
DO YOU KNOW❗ IT IS POSSIBLE❓

Memory Verse:
Mark 9:23

Message:
A story was told of when Dwight Whyms was rushed to the hospital with kidney failure, collapsed lungs and a failed liver. His parents went into the emergency room and the doctor said, “I’m sorry, your son is dying.” His mother looked at her son and then looked at the doctor, “You have no right to say that,” “You are not God” she added. The Doctor ran the list of ominious signs. The liver and kidneys had failed. The lungs had collapsed. The heart had stopped beating twice and they resuscitated him. “But is there a possibility that he will live?” She further queried. The doctor managed to mumble a ‘Yes, ‘It is a possibility, but it is not probable.” The mother demanded again to know if it was ever possible for his son to survive and the doctor maintained that the chances were very slim. Then she assured the doctor that her son was not going to die. Three(3) weeks later Whyms was talking, walking and discharged from the hospital.

What we believe above every other thing has a way of becoming a POSSIBILITY. The power of faith is such a mighty force that it opens closed doors, restores lost fortunes and even brings the dead back to life. The Syro-Phoenician woman had enough faith for the healing of her daughter and she got it. What is it that you are dearly in need of❓ Can you believe God for its POSSIBILITY❓ Can you raise your confidence beyond the realm of PROBABLY to that of POSSIBILITY❓ All things are possible to him that believes.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
We serve a God of all possibilities. Believe Him and see a miracle Today! Yes I mean Today! Today!

PRAYER:
Lord, I believe in You. And I know With you all things are POSSIBLE

ARE YOU GETTING DEEP CONVICTIONS❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Saturday 16th November 2019

Text:
2 Samuel 11:8 -17
Matthew 1:6

TOPIC:
ARE YOU GETTING DEEP CONVICTIONS❓

Memory Verse:
2 Samuel 11:11

Message:
A conviction is a strong belief that governs ones decisions that one is willing even to die for it. “John Maxwell” describes it as a strong inward compass. History is replete with stories of men and women who changed their world by the power of CONVICTION.

The Scripture tells how Joseph’s CONVICTION enabled him to say ‘no’ to sexual pleasure and pressure.
Daniel’s CONVICTION led him to refuse tasting the dainties from the king’s table.
Esther’s CONVICTION led HER to risk her to appear before King Ahasuerus uninvited.

Our text illustrates the power of deep convictions. Uriah’s action were born out of deep personal CONVICTIONS. His convictions prevented him from enjoying the pleasure of intimacy with his wife when his fellow soldiers were sacrificing their lives on the battle field. His convictions could not allow him to rest while the ark of God’s covenant remains in the open field. Even under the influence of wine, his convictions made him to sleep on the floor with the servants of David instead of returning home.

Little wonder the Holy Spirit insisted on immortalising his name by bringing it into the genealogy of Jesus Christ. What are your CONVICTIONS? On which truth and values are your CONVICTIONS based? Today’s lesson offers us the opportunity of developing deeper CONVICTIONS.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
If you are not standing for something, you can fall for anything. The other way round you cannot place something on nothing and expect it to hold

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to develop deep convictions based on the revelation of your word.

ARE YOU PLANNING WISELY❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Friday 15 November 2019

TOPIC:
ARE YOU PLANNING WISELY❓

KEY VERSE:
“Any enterprise is built by wise planning, becomes strong through common sense and profits wonderfully by keeping abreast of the facts” (Prov. 24:3-4, TLB).

TEXT: Proverbs 24:1-5

MESSAGE:
A man was travelling and stopped at an intersection. He asked an elderly man, “Where does this road take me?” The elderly person asked, “Where do you want to go?” The man replied, “I don’t know.” The elderly person said, “Then you take any road.” What difference does it make? When we don’t know where we are going, any road will take us there. The place of planning cannot be overemphasised as we dream of success in all our endeavors. The problem is that many of us unfortunately leave the task of planning our lives in the hands of God. God’s word does not encourage such foolishness. In fact God’s word recommends that we make our plans and present them to God for rectification and blessings. Proverbs 16;1, 3 (GNT) states: “We may make our plans but God has the last word”. Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful In carrying them out.

In This remaining months of the year , if you really want to succeed you must make out time to set your goals; and through sanctified common sense; draw tangible plans of how you hope to actualise them and then take it to the Lord in prayer. As God’s blessings come upon your plans success shall keep meeting you along the paths of life.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Failing to plan is planning to fail.

PRAYER:
Lord, make me a wise planner today.
