DO YOU KNOW THE REASONS FOR YOUR SITUATION❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text :
Daniel 2:14-23

Topic :
DO YOU KNOW THE REASONS FOR YOUR SITUATION❓

Memory verse:
Daniel 2:21

Message :
Oftentimes, God creates or manipulates opportunities in order to take us to higher levels. He wants us to grow and increase in every area of  life. Changes is often a catalyst for growth in our lives. It keeps us from getting stuck in a rut. God will supernaturally open and close doors to keep us on the path toward our destiny. He will “stir us” out of comfortable situations and stretch us because He loves us too much to allow us to live in mediocrity. You may be in a perfectly fine situation for years, but just as He opened that door, all of a sudden, He closes it. Nothing happens by accident.

You will notice here that Daniel and his brothers faced a death-threatening situation. But as they sought the mercies of God, it turned out to be their opportunity  for promotion. So in every situation, it is up to us to discover God’s next level agenda and yield ourselves to go through the demands.

Incidentally, such moment often come in disguise and that is why we need the leading of the Holy spirit. That means if a friend does you wrong, if you go through a setback, if you lose someone, or if your workplace changes, you can either embrace that change and God will use it to take you higher, or you can resist it and end up becoming stagnant and setting for mediocrity. Stay open for change. It may be negative on the surface but remember that God would not allow it if He didn’t have a purpose for it. If you will embrace that change, the winds that you thought would defeat you will actually push you to your divine destiny. See every difficult situation as a opportunity for a testimony

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
Nothing happens by accident. God is directing your steps.

PRAYER:
Dear God, I open my Heart and Mind to receive to all that You have for me. I trust that You are with me, directing my every step. Amen

DOES YOUR PAST REALLY MATTER ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 5 January 2020

Text :
John 4:15-24

Topic :
DOES YOUR PAST REALLY MATTER❓

Memory verse:
John 4:24

Message :
When a driver is driving a vehicle, he must concentrate fully on the road and it’s environs. Any distraction can result in an accident which at times can be fatal. The driver is not expected to keep looking back at the road he has already driven. He is not expected to dwell in his past, if not he will face the dire consequences of his unwise actions.

Unfortunately, a lot people dwell more in their past, and not in the present, let alone the future. They are still tied to their past failures, past mistakes, past regrets, past events. When Jesus was dealing with the Samaritan woman, He was not looking at her past. He was more interested in the present and future. Her past did not matter, because the Lord saw her as a vessel worthy of use to evangelize the city of Samaria.

Friend, stop dwelling in your past. Embrace the glorious future that God has made available for you. Let the words of Jesus sink deep into your heart. And let it produce the change that will draw others to Christ. Receive the grace to leave leave your ugly past and step into an uncommon future in Jesus’ name, Amen.

N/B. Past is Past, and Gone is Gone sang by a psalmist

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
To live in the past is to abandon the future.

PRAYER:
I receive the grace to move away from my past, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

HOW DEVOTED ARE YOU ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Friday 3 January 2019

Text :
James 4:6-10

Topic :
HOW DEVOTED ARE YOU❓

Memory Verse :
Romans 12:1

Message :
Being alive is an opportunity for devotions to God. And until we understand that the purpose of our existence is tied to the worship of God we may end up wasting the privileges of life. No matter what our present circumstances are, God’s ultimate desire is that we grow in friendship with Him. Even as the attractions of this life drive us towards the pursuit of mundane things, we are warned that “Friendship with the world is enemity with God”.

If you desire to live a hypothetical free life, have God’s life in you and serve Him with all your heart, soul and strength, you must first be surrendered to the Holy Spirit. Our text says, draw near to God for He only can help us serve Him with absolute devotion. This also demands submission and absolutely surrendered to the Almighty. As we yield to Him, our sins are washed away and we are able to resist the devil and all his tricks and pressures. Then we can devote our lives to Him.

As you read this passage, what is the degree of your devotion to the Lord? Is your body a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God? Be encouraged to devote more of your time and life to him today as never before. Most interestingly, there is available grace to all who will humbly seek for the power to be devoted to God. And this grace is the type that lifts one up in due seasons. Please lay your life on the altar and once more pledge your devotions to Him.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
A life devoted to the worship of God is a life destined for greatness.

PRAYER :
Oh Lord, give me the grace to worship You in humility and total surrender. Amen.

WHY NOT SEEK FOR DIVINE WISDOM ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Thursday 2 January 2020

Text :
Proverbs 8:6-12

Topic :
WHY NOT SEEK FOR DIVINE WISDOM❓

Memory Verse :
Proverbs 8:11

Message :
Knowledge and wisdom appear similar but they really are not. Knowledge means having information and understanding about a subject. This is acquired by self-study or at school. However, wisdom is the ability to make sensible decisions or Judgement through spiritual insight, hindsight or foresight; and it is acquired through the help of the Holy spirit.

In the Old Testament, Good gave wisdom to Solomon. It does not mean that Solomon knew everything in the world. Whenever Solomon had a problem, he would have wisdom to solve the problem. For instance, One day, two prostitutes came to King Solomon seeking justice. They live in the same house. One of them had a baby three days after the other ones baby was born. One of them, however, killed her baby by mistake. She exchanged the dead baby with the other woman’s baby and pretended to be innocent. Both were claiming the living baby, they went to King Solomon for a real mother of the living baby (1 Kings 3:16-28). King Solomon solved this problem with wisdom, though he did not have scientific knowledge such as the DNA test of today.

This New Year 2020, more than anything else, we need wisdom for daily living. It should top the list of our prayer requests. “For wisdom is better than rubies. And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her”. And since the Lord is generous and has promised to give wisdom to those who ask of it (James 1:5), it behooves us to come to the Lord today with a heart in search for wisdom. Dr. D.W. Kenyon said that Christian countries in Europe have produced a great number of inventions and discoveries and have become rich because their people believed in Jesus and acquired wisdom. Since Jesus is the wisdom of God, growing in intimacy with Him is a sure access route to wisdom for daily victory.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
Wisdom is the rightful application of knowledge and understanding, wisdom is attained through an intimate relationship with Jesus.

PRAYER
Lord, grant me knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

CAN YOU APPRECIATE GOD’S FAITHFULNESS ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Wednesday 1 January 2020

Text :
2 Corinthians 2:12-17

Topic :
CAN YOU APPRECIATE GOD’S FAITHFULNESS❓

Memory Verse :
2 Corinthians 2:14

Message :
It is good to sometimes look back and see the things God has done for us.

When we face tough times and our dreams look impossible, it is better we go back and retrospect on victories God gave us in the past. Relive the times when you thought you were stuck, but God opened a door. Remember how He put you at the right place at the right time. Remember how He spared your life from an accident. When you are constantly remembering God’s goodness, how He has protected, vindicated and promoted you, not only will your faith rise in your heart, but it will spur you into praising God and your faith will become stronger in Him that He can do all things. God likes when we appreciate Him for His goodness, kindness, and faithfulness.

Today, can you stop worrying and burst into songs of praise to Him whose faithfulness endures forever? Choose any song of praise and tell Him how grateful you are. God deserves more praises for bringing you into this New Year. You did not cross over the last year because you were smarter or more righteous. You are alive today because of His mercies. So devote quality time today to thank Him who always leads us in triumph through Christ. Fill the atmosphere with the fragrance of praise and He will yet do more for you.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
Gratitude and appreciation are the important facets of our lives.

PRAYER:
Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness to me in so many situations. Amen.

HOW ARE YOU PLANNING YOURSELF ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Tuesday 31  December 2019

Text : PROV. 30: 24-31

Topic : HOW ARE YOU PLANNING YOURSELF❓

Memory verse:
Proverbs 30:25

Message :
From the human perspective, ants are reputably among the tiniest insects on earth. Ants are too infinitesimal. We climb on them, crush them with the soles of our feet or with our finger – tips without even noticing. However, the text today reveals something special about the ants – they are meticulous and are always well – prepared . They prepare for their future so that they will not starve. How much of a planner are you? Do you live your life in a disorganised or shabby way? Really, this has nothing to do with your economic or spiritual status. How organised is your office, family, church and wherever you are in charge of?

You can achieve a lot more if you get more organised. Yes, you can, unfortunately, we live in a world that a typical person wants to lump up things and then later rummage the rubble. But as we look at the God we serve you will notice that we serve a God who is well organised. He created the heavens and the earth in an orderly pattern ( Genesis 1). God is not the author of confusion. He is a God of order. We therefore must emulate Him and be organised.

The truth is that one of the reasons we were not able to actualise some of our goals this year is that we were very much disorganised. One of the greatest favours we can do to ourselves as we approach the New Year is to take some time to organise our lives before we cross over into it. It is time to have an organised prayer life, financial plan, living and work environments. It is time to put things in order if we must move forward.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
Do not spiritualise organisational issues.

PRAYER:
Lord,  I ask for grace to be organised in every sphere of my life.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR WORTH ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 29 December 2019

Text : Judges 6 : 11- 24

Topic : DO YOU KNOW YOUR WORTH❓

Memory verse:
Judges 6:12

Message :
The above Bible text is derived from the event that happened while Gideon was threshing wheat at the wine press. Here, the Angel of the Lord called Gideon a mighty man of valour. Notice that despite the fact that Gideon had not yet fought and defeated the intimidating Midianites, God still saw the great valour in Gideon.

Are you a believer? If you are, then you are not a loser, for there is greatness in you to win the battles of life. Remember that you are the branch of a Vine and Christ is the true Vine (John 15:1-7). Stop looking at yourself with pity and unworthiness. Start now to see the greatness in you through Christ.

The words that the Angel of the Lord spoke to Gideon greatly boosted his confidence and self-worth and made him daring. Allow these words that you have read today to do the same thing to you. Where have you felt like a lay-back? Is it in your family, marriage, educational pursuit, Christian Life, finances, etc? Please be assured today that there is great valour in you. Receive the power to step out in boldness and overcome all those challenges. Keep on, do not give up for after now, comes a great victory.

What you do not know is that you are yet to harness the great potentials that God has deposited in you. You are not useless. There is something in you that your generation needs. The world is waiting for the manifestation of your valour.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
There is greatness in you to overcome every challenge.

PRAYER:
Lord, by your power, I receive great valour to succeed.

ARE YOU STILL LYING TO YOURSELF ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Friday 27  December 2019

Topic: ARE YOU STILL LYING TO YOURSELVES❓

Text: Psalm 119:27-32

Memory verse
Psalm 119: 29

Message:
Self Deception is the worst of all acts of deception. When many centuries ago, the playwright, William Shakespeare admonished, …” *tell thyself the truth”,** He must have been shocked by the unbelievable way people propagate falsehood even to the extent of lying to themselves.

Lying to yourself implies not accepting the truth you know to be so; not admitting your wrongs; consciously believing a lie.
It is cultivating a lifestyle that is opposite of your personal convictions.  The psalmist knew that the repercussions of lying to oneself can be damming and so he prayed earnestly that God should restrain him from such acts of self-delusion.

The secret to overcoming the tendency to self-deception is acquainting oneself with instruction from God’s Word. It is accepting and practising the Word of God in spite of what our feelings or friends may be demanding. It is a safe way of preserving one’s destiny. Let make that prayer of David our daily prayer.  It was this revelation that made Frederick Douglas declare, ” **I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence”.*
*
CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Lying against someone is evil, but lying against Oneself is Suicidal.

PRAYER:
Lord, keep me from lying to myself.

ARE YOU OBEYING DIVINE GUIDANCE ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Sunday 22 December 2019

Topic:: ARE YOU OBEYING DIVINE GUIDANCE❓

Text: Luke 2:41-44

Memory verse
Luke 2:43 -44

Message:
Joseph and Marry took seriously every instruction they received about the child Jesus. At one time, they had taken refuge in Egypt, all in obedience to divine instruction. In fact, every step they took was based on divine instruction. They didn’t just live anyhow. But it could be, as the years rolled by, they loosened up their sensitivity to divine guidance. Perhaps this explains why none of them knew that the child Jesus tarried in Jerusalem, but supposed he went home with some other people.

For a consistent quality relationship with God, it is very important that we remain sensitive to divine guidance. Regardless of our attainments in God, we should never come to the point of taking spiritual issues for granted, or to just ” COPY and PASTE” whatever we see other people do, without really being certain whether or not such “things” are approved by God. Instead, just like Joseph and Mary did at the earlier days of their walk with God , every decision and every step we take should be birthed through prayer and specific divine counsel – and not merely guided by our previous experiences or by what we just heard or saw other people do.

The Christian Life is neither a gamble nor is it designed to be guided by conviction or mindset of somebody we fancy. We must never allow our eyes to wander off God. At each time, we must seek to be certain were we are with God , instead of wasting precious times and treasures chasing shadows.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
We must never allow our eyes  to wander off God. At each time, we must seek to be certain were we are with God

PRAYER:
Lord, today, I commit to make certain that every step I take is ordained by you.

WHAT IS YOUR OWN VIEW ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Wednesday 18 December 2019

Text:
1 John 2:15-17

Topic:
WHAT IS YOUR OWN VIEW❓

Memory verse:
Matthew 5:8

Message:
Studies by the Barna Group and Covenant Eyes in the United States have revealed that over 40 million Americans are regular visitors to pornographic websites where they watch videos or pictures of naked men and women. An average visit is said to last between 29 seconds and 6 minutes. But more alarming at a global level is that there are around 42 million pornographic websites, which totals about 370 million pages of pornography for people to feast their eyes on.

The studies, extracts of which were published in an article by Luke Gibbons in Prophesy News Watch Magazine also disclosed that pornography increases marital infidelity rate by more than 300% and that 68% of church-going men and over 50% of Pastors view pornography on a regular basis.

You may say, “Wow! This is happening in America?” But, the truth is that although the numbers are not available in Nigeria, the trend is not too different across the world. Pornography is designed by the devil to poison, pollute and destroy the minds of millions of people. It is very very ADDICTIVE.
(1Corinthians 6:12; 2Peter 2:19)
and DESTRUCTIVE (Proverbs 6:25-28; Ezekiel 20:30; Ephesians 4:19). Lusting after other people in our minds, which is the essence of pornography, is offensive to God.

We must have it settled in our minds that the love of this world and the lust therefore will at best make us enemies of God. BECAREFUL!

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Don’t allow your eyes lead you to sin

PRAYER:
Give me strength, O Lord, to resist the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh so that I don’t make myself an enemy and a stranger to You in Jesus’ name.
