WHY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY ❓

DOUBLE DESTINY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Text:
1 Samuel 15:7-16

TOPIC:
WHY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY❓

MEMORY VERSE:
1Sam. 15:3

Message:
We live in times where and when people blame everyone else for what is happening in their lives. From the leaders to the led, parents to children, government to the masses, school teachers to the pupils, pastors to the congregations, and vice versa. Many people no longer take responsibility for their own actions or inactions.

When their plans turn out as planned, they are so happy to announce, “we made it” However, when things turn out not as planned, the language changes. We tend to blame everyone and everything but ourselves when we fail to meet up without responsibilities. We are more interested in passing the blame to other person.

In our text, God expressly told king Saul what to do. God said to him, “Go to Amalek and utterly destroy everything and everyone….” The instructions to Saul the leader was unequivocal and clear. But what did saul do? He spared Agag the king of Amalek. He spared some livestock so as to “sacrifice” unto the Lord. And when confronted, he quickly pointed accusing fingers at the people. He didn’t want to take responsibility. He failed in his duties as a leader. It takes humility to admit our mistake. King Saul is a type of some present leaders, who blame others for their own failures rather than accept and correct their mistakes.

Leaders, whether in the family,  church or society at general, should learn to accept responsibilities. Blaming people, witches and wizards for our failures will not do us any good. Let us learn from the mistakes of king Saul today not to allow ourselves to be pushed off the track on our assignments. Let us take responsibilities as leaders and guide our followers aright.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS:
Trading blames does not bring profit, accepting responsibilities does.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to accept my mistakes and take responsibility for my actions. Amen.
