Text :
Act 18:24-28

Topic :
ARE YOU ENCOURAGING OTHERS❓

Memory verse:
Phil. 1:7

Message:
Encouragement, according to Online Dictionary.com, is the act of giving hope or support to someone; the expression of approval and support. That which serves to incite, support, promote or advance, as favour, countenance. The newspapers and indeed the news media are filled with discouraging pieces of news items. At home and business locations, the story is the same. Even among the elects, the scenario is not different. There is vacancy for ENCOURAGERS in the body of Christ. Paul and Timothy in spite of their experience and out-of- this-world anointing, they acknowledged the encouragement Brother Philemon meted out to them (Phil 1:7). Our text talks about encouragement. You will quickly notice that Priscilla and Aquila’s family provided the platform Appollos needed to boost his ministry. In later development, Appollos and Paul were evenly classified by the churcges in Corinth. Imagine if the encouragement of the Aquila’s was not in place.

For several generations on the West African sub region, the rites of passage from boyhood to adulthood among the various tribes included words of impartation. The traditional words of the fathers to their sons have been, “Do not be afraid.” “Be courageous.” This was succinctly captured by Camara Laye in his book “African Child”, where he relived his own solitude in the woods. Along with other boys he kept vigil in a forest filled with night noises and nocturnal animals. It was a terrifying experience to the boys because each one was not sure what will happen next. The boys will always remember the words of encouragement of their fathers whenever the temptation to retreat and surrender filled their hearts. At the break of the day, each boy discovers that he was never really alone, for their fathers kept vigil with weapons, to ensure no harm befalls their sons. The boys were never told in advance. All they were told was, ” Be courageous and be not afraid.” By this a boy becomes a man when he trust his father’s words enough not cry or scream throughout the night even when afraid.

A Christian becomes mature when he trusts and obeys the word of God. We have been helped to help others, encouraged – to pass it on. Don’t break the flow at your corner especially the newly converted brethren and those going through difficult times.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS :
You are encouraged to encourage others. Don’t be a circuit- breaker

PRAYER:
Father, help me to take your words to heart. Amen.
